Bolivia’s minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy, Juan José Sosa (pictured), has said that his country will invest $2885m in a bid to produce 2010 MW for home power supply by 2020. The surplus will be exported.

The DPA news agency reported that the nation’s household electric demand reached 1337 MW in 2014, with a surplus of 103 MW. The government aims to have a 1000 MW surplus by 2020.  

In Bolivia’s power mix, 64 per cent comes from thermoelectric plants, 29 per cent from hydropower, 5 per cent from combined-cycle gas plants and 2 per cent from renewable sources.
