Wind policy

Quebec`s provincial energy board, La Regie de l`energie, has recommended that Hydro-Quebec should buy and help produce 50 MW of wind-generated power per year over a nine-year period starting in 2002.

The recommendation to the Quebec government was made in a report based on public hearings on wind power policy held earlier this year. The report said up to seventy 750 kW wind turbines should be installed in the province each year. Wind farms in the programme should generate power at a wholesale cost of Canadian ¢ 5.8/kWh or less.
