18 April 2002 – MDSI Mobile Data Solutions Inc., the provider of mobile workforce management solutions, has signed a contract to upgrade current customer PECO Energy Company (“PECO”), Philadelphia, to Advantex r7, the latest version of MDSI’s solution.
Advantex r7 will be the third generation of MDSI’s solution that PECO has implemented. PECO originally selected MDSI’s mobile workforce management solution in June 1994 for its RISE (“Reengineering Into Service Excellence”) program. The initial mandate was to identify and deploy technology that would increase efficiency and improve customer service throughout their organization. Following the unprecedented success of their initial program, PECO upgraded to MDSI’s Advantex r5.2 in 1997 and realized continued customer service success, lowered operating costs and increased productivity.
“Our strong relationship with MDSI® and excellent results from earlier versions of their product made our decision to select Advantex r7 simple,” said Terry Donnelly, Director of Customer Response. “The flexibility of Advantex r7 will allow us to quickly and easily meet new business requirements. We will be able to use less expensive mobile devices in the field, and MDSI will soon deliver new product features that ensure continued improvements to customer service and operational efficiency. Additionally, the solution’s scalable, open architecture provides a standard mobile workforce management platform that can be expanded to accommodate additional Exelon business units.”
“We value the experience and insight that long-time customers like PECO offer regarding best practices in mobile workforce management. PECO’s selection of Advantex r7 validates our ongoing efforts to build strong customer relationships and to incorporate user feedback to continually enhance Advantex,” said Erik Dysthe, President and CEO.
AdvantexTM will be used to support PECO’s approximately two million customers and will schedule service work orders for its 320 electric field service dispatchers, mobile workers and supervisors. The solution will dispatch work order details wirelessly, in real time, over PECO’s private Ericsson network. Mobile workers will interact with Advantex and process their work through the day using an array of mobile devices, initially laptops, with plans to eventually migrate toward smaller, less expensive Pocket PC devices.
The solution enables dispatchers, supervisors and field workers to have up-to-the-minute information to effectively monitor, manage and execute field service operations at all times.
Advantex will also provide for a seamless integration with PECO’s proprietary customer information system to ensure customer service representatives have access to the real-time data. With Advantex decision support tools, PECO will benefit from the ability to harness and transform workforce management data, providing decision makers with a powerful means to monitor, manage, evaluate and improve operational performance.
