Joel Hoiland, chief executive of Utilimetrics, said Hydro One had led the pace in smart meter deployment in Ontario. Almost all of Hydro One’s 1.2 million residential and small business customers now have smart meters, and over the past year, more than 1 million customers have switched to time-of-use pricing, making it one of the few utilities to achieve its target.
Hydro One’s customers now receive bills based on actual consumption for the billing period under normal conditions, and have access to hourly usage information via the internet the day after they use it. Rick Stevens, vice president of asset management for Hydro One, said: “This success was achieved on schedule and on budget.”
