Tunisian IPP contract
An American-Japanese consortium has awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Rades II power plant in Tunisia to Alstom. Rades II, near Tunis, is the country`s first independent power project.
The consortium developing the project consists of PSEG Global, Sithe Energies and Marubeni. Alstom will be the main contractor and will also supply the gas turbines, steam turbine generator, control system and balance of plant.
Rades II will use natural gas as its main fuel. It is scheduled to begin commercial operation in 2001 and will supply 20 to 25 per cent of Tunisia`s power.
