Southern Africa electrification

A link to carry power to Zimbabwe from the Cahora Bassa dam in Mozambique has been inaugurated. It is one of a number of projects underway to improve electrification and economic integration in southern Africa.

The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) is purchasing 400 MW from the plant through the 420 kV line which runs from Cahora Bassa to Bindura in the province of Tete. The link will cut Zimbabwe`s imports from South Africa.

Meanwhile, a joint venture has been set up between Mozambique, South Africa and Swaziland to improve power supply in south Mozambique and Swaziland.
