Qatar plans $3bn power spend by 2012

14 October 2002 – The Gulf state of Qatar is planning three billion dollars worth of investments into the country’s electricity generation sector over the next 10 years, according to the Al-Hayat newspaper.

These investments are needed to expand the capacities of the existing electricity generating stations and to build new stations over the next few years. The projects will increase the Qatari electricity generation capacity by another 2500 MW.

Meanwhile, TotalFinaElf chairman and CEO, Thierry Desmarest was quoted as saying that his company will invest $2bn on energy projects in Qatar and proposes to expand Qatargas with two new liquefied natural gas trains over the next few years.
