Middle East draws Austrian interest

With Middle East power consumption increasing 10- to 15-percent annually, both power and water authorities will continue planning major investment programs in electricity generation and distribution, according to predictions from Vienna-based Elin Energieversorgung, an Austrian company currently working on several key regional projects. The need for new generation, transmission and distribution construction will remain high although regional cooperation and interconnection projects are expected to ease growing demand.

Elin Energieversorgung is building 132-kV substations in Iskan Al-AAm and Makkah for EWR Jeddah, a 132-kV substation for the new Chicago Beach Hotel in Dubai; 132-kV substations at Regga Al Buteen, Al Quoz and Jafza in Dubai; plus two substations for the Water and Electricity Department in Abu Dhabi.
