Egypt awards plant contracts
The Egyptian Electricity Authority (EEA), the state-owned electric utility, has awarded two major steam-turbine plant orders to the Siemens Power Generation Group. The orders are valued at approximately (US)$114 million. Siemens will provide two 320-MW steam turbine-generators each to power plants in Sidi Krir and Ayoun Moussa. Both plants will operate on natural gas fuel.
Siemens will team up with Ferrometalco S.A.E. of Cairo to produce the turbines for the Ayoun Moussa plant. The two firms founded a joint venture, Egyptian Turbine Co., following the Sidi Krir order. Commissioning of the first Sidi Krir unit is scheduled for mid-1998 and the second in early 1999. The two units at Ayoun Moussa will be commissioned in mid 1999 and early 2000.
