26 November 2002 – Azerbaijan and Iran have agreed to build a 220 kV electrical power line connecting their two countries, the Azeri state power company said in a statement Monday.

Construction work will begin this December and the line should be ready to use by March of next year, the statement said.

The agreement, between the Azeri power company Azerenergi and its Iranian counterpart Tavanir, was made during a two-day visit to Iran by Azerenergi President Etibar Piriverdiyeva.

Last month, the former Soviet republic of Azerbaijan and Iran agreed to explore a series of joint projects in the oil, gas and transportation sectors, following an improvement in relations between the two countries.
