8 November 2002 – Energy research group Wood Mackenzie announced Wednesday that a team of six senior analysts from rivals Cambridge Energy Research Associates (Cera) were joining the group.

The coup is intended to increase Wood Mackenzie’s US presence which includes a new Boston office where the six former Cera directors will be based. The six are Mack Brothers, Ed Kelly, Ron Kapavik, Joe Sannicandro, Sondra Scott and Jen Snyder.

This strategic move on the Americas energy research and consulting market comes just ten months after Wood Mackenzie achieved a $40.0m management and employee buyout from Deutsche Bank AG

Commenting on his company’s North American expansion Wood Mackenzie CEO Paul Gregory said, “Our international clients tell us they want the Wood Mackenzie depth of analysis in North American upstream, gas and power research. So we’ve moved quickly to put new people on the ground in both Houston and Boston, significantly extending our existing Houston based resources.”

Wood Mackenzie head of energy Stephen Halliday added, “Now I believe we have the best Americas gas and power coverage available from the combination of skills in our Edinburgh, Houston and Boston centres. Our Americas upstream research products are well established in our global portfolio and we will move ahead as quickly as possible with US Lower 48, US Gulf of Mexico (shelf) and Western Canada coverage. We aim to offer the complete view of future supplies into North America and the most developed energy consulting capability on the market”.
