According to Ronald Beare, vice president and general manager of forestry company UPM Uruguay (formerly Botnia), if Uruguay’s population keeps growing at this rate, it will pose a very important energy challenge to the country, reports Noticias Financieras.
His views were shared by the presidents of state-owned UTE and ANCAP, who recently attended a breakfast meeting, orgainzed by ADM, aimed at discussing the energy policy of the South American nation.
Beare said the private generators in the country, which total 20, generate only 3 per cent of the total energy consumed in the country, and emphasized the importance of the main principles of diversification, reduction of dependency on foreign sources and the promotion of the local industry and investment.
