Uruguay to raise its power imports from Brazil

Uruguay is set to benefit from an increase in the sale of energy from Brazil, NoticiasFinancieras reports.

According to Edison Lobao, Brazil’s minister of energy, the country will increase its sale of energy from 500 MWh to 800 MWh as Uruguay struggles with dwindling energy reserves.

Up to now, Uruguay was only able to import 500 MW from a power plant in Argentina.

In fact, a shortage earlier in March forced the country to increase its imports of energy for 15 days to cope with a slump in supplies.

Lobao told reporters during a recent press conference his country is committed to “energy integration”.
