Residential power generation fails to ‘ignite’ in Chile

Since law 20,571 was passed by Chile’s Ministry of Energy in October 2014, a total of 680 applications to install residential solar panels has been submitted, but only 122 projects have been declared to the SEC, according to official reports.

ࢀ¨The law entitles customers of distribution companies to produce their own energy in order to promote the use of unconventional renewable energy in Chile.

ࢀ¨Experts have explained that there is difficulty in this market because the process of installing solar panels on housing stock is “cumbersome” and can take up to six months, with up to six forms to fill in.
