Private transmission tenders launched Brazil
Brazil`s National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) has launched a tender for the first concession to build and operate power transmission lines in the country. Aneel said it will grant concessions for some 5000 km of lines all over the country requiring an investment of up to $2bn from the private sector.
The first project to be auctioned will be the construction of a 500 kV line between Tucuruàƒ and Belém in the northern state of Paràƒ¡. Other lines to be constructed include links between Serra da Mesa (Goiàƒ¡s state) and Rio das àƒâ€°guas (Bahia); Curitiba (Paranàƒ¡) and Sàƒ£o Paulo; and Imperatriz to Presidente Dutra (Maranhàƒ£o).
In all, there will be 21 lines constructed and operated by the private sector, although the full list has not been disclosed. The country`s electricity holding company, Electrobras, wants Aneel to keep certain key sections of the network under government control.
