Power cuts looming for Peru

The Ministry of Energy and Mines in Peru has admitted it is facing serious challenges in guaranteeing the supply of electricity to several regions in the south of the country, according to media reports.

Diario Financiero said that the Mantaro hydropower complex (880 MW) is due to be taken out of service for routine maintenance. It expected to take a month so power cuts are expected.

Furthermore, Southwestern Electricity Society (Seal) announced that there will be several blackouts until the end of 2013 because the Chilca-Marcona-Ocona-Montalvo transmission line will not be ready until December, Peru 21 reports.
