New GE turbine undergoing tests
The first GE MS9001EC gas turbine has successfully completed full-speed, no-load testing and been shipped to Argentina to be installed in a new cogeneration plant at a steel mill. The turbine, to be site-rated at 160 MW, is at the Central Termica Argener cogeneration plant near San Nicolas. Additional testing is being done at the site. The new plant will provide between 250 and 410 t/h of steam for the steel mill while providing electrical power for the national grid. Commercial operation is set for November. Natural gas will be the primary fuel, with distillate as a back-up.
The plant will be owned by HIE Argener SA of Argentina, a subsidiary of Houston Industries Energy Inc. GE`s consortium partner for the project is Techint Compania Tecnica International, SACEI of Argentina.
