Mexico experienced a 26 per cent increase in the production of clean energy to 23 million MWh during the first six months of this year, according to a report in Reforma newspaper.

Mexico currently uses wind, hydropower, nuclear and geothermal energy as sources to produce non-polluting energy in an effort to decrease its reliance on fossil fuels.

According to Renewables 2011Globapublished by l Status Report, recently Ren21, the world produced 312 million MWh during the first half of the year, with Mexico representing just 1 per cent of total production.

About 18.8 per cent of the energy produced globally is currently derived from a renewable source, the report said.
