Mexico has launched its wholesale electricity market, with day-ahead pricing.
The initial market has been gradually expanded across the country and real-time pricing has been added.
The first power generation auction is scheduled for 31 March.
The country’s independent transmission operator is also planning to hold auctions for financial transmission rights in late 2016, and for capacity in early 2017.
The move is part of Mexico’s ongoing efforts to reform its energy sector with market liberalization and private investment.
The initial results of the wholesale market have been generally well-received.
