Power distributors, Empresa Electrica de Guatemala (EEGSA) and Energuate, have awarded 85.88 MW in new short-term supply contracts up to end of April 2015 in Guatemala.

The National Energy Commission (CNE) confirmed the following companies were successful: Electrogeneracion (20 MW), Generadora del Este (12 MW), Renace (40 MW), SIBO (5 MW) and Duke (8.88 MW).

According to Guatemalan daily Prensa Libre, EEGSA and Energuate had 260 MW on offer early this month but only awarded a third of that, having conducted a cost benefit analysis.

A new tender is expected to be launched in the coming weeks.
