GasAtacama signs power contract
The GasAtacama pipeline and power project has announced that it has signed a firm and long-term power sales contract with Chilean energy holding company Emel. The power plant`s generating capacity is now more than 85 per cent committed under various contracts.
This latest deal commits up to 60 per cent of the GasAtacama`s 740 MW of generating capacity for a period of at least ten years. The contract involves the sale of an initial supply of 230 MW from 2002, growing to 415 MW by 2011 to Emel`s three electric distribution companies serving Chile`s northern grid.
Construction of the project`s 940 km pipeline from Argentina across the Andes to Chile is now 85 per cent complete.
