Brazilian authorities have inaugurated the first floating solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the reservoir of the Balbina hydroelectric plant in the Amazon.

The plant represents the first of two pilot projects announced in March of last year.

The plant has operations of 1 MWp, although it is expected to add 4 MWp by October.

The prototype occupies 64 square metres, and once further expert research is concluded it could be expanded to 300 MW.
