Enel wins funding for Latin American green projects

Two renewable energy projects in Mexico and Costa Rica are set for construction after Enel Green Power won a total of $89m in financing.

The Italian developer now looks forward to beginning the 74 MW Bii Nee Stipa II wind farm in Mexico and the 50 MW Chucas hydroelectric power plant in Costa Rica.

$13m in financing came from lending agency, Simest.

Enel Green Power acting through its subsidiary Impulsora Nacional de Electricidad S. de R.L. de C.V., also signed a loan agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for $76m, to cover part of the investment in the Bii Nee Stipa II project.

The wind farm, which required an overall investment of around $160m, is Enel Green Power’s first in Mexico.

Located in the region of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (Oaxaca), it has an installed capacity of 74 MW and is able to generate approximately 250 million kWh each year.
