Eight in ten Venezuelan power plants have maintenance problems

Maintenance deficiencies within Venezuela’s electrical system continue, with 78 per cent of thermal plants with problems due to incorrect management decisions and lack of investment and spare parts, according to Elio Palacio, a prominent union leader.

“It can not be accepted that the country has a poor quality of service because [the authorities] do not pay due attention to maintenance,” Palacio said.

As a result there isn’t enough energy available from thermal sources to cover the 3GW deficit in national electricity demand, which ranges from 16 GW to 17 GW.
