The authorities in Ecuador are seeking to close this year with electrical losses no higher than $200m, according to a report in El Comercio newspaper.

This would represent a reduction of 12 per cent compared to the figures released last year of around $227m.

El Comercio cites estimates by the minister of Electricity, Esteban Albornoz, who said this reduction would be achieved through an investment of $60m.

The investment covers a total of 31 measures including the replacement of distribution networks and the installation of meters, the newspaper added.
