Chile’s Minister of Energy, Maximo Pacheco (pictured), has said that the economic development of his country’s Aysén region is deeply linked to initiatives in the energy sector that can be achieved in that area.

“Only with energy development are you able to build a policy of development for Aysén,” the minister said, emphasizing the importance of building an agenda of energy development that will move on hand in hand with other productive activities.

“The cheap energy that exists in Aysen can help to develop tourism, fisheries, livestock, among other areas,” he added.

Aysen’s hydroelectric potential has been estimated at 5000 MW.
