Colombian Caribbean could face energy rationing

Colombian authorities have warned that damage to a gas turbine has caused an electrical failure in the Atlantic which could lead to rationing in the Caribbean region.

The damage recorded to combustion turbines within the Flores IV unit of the 610 MW Termoflores plant (pictured) in Barranquilla means the loss of 230 MW, which increases the risk of rationing, especially on the coast.

The damage to the turbine’s blades occurred during a scheduled maintenance operation.
