BRAZIL, Oct. 4, 2000 (Global News)—Brazil’s state-owned power generation company Chesf will call for tender by late November or early December for the extension and conversion to natural gas supply of the thermoelectric diesel plant Bongi, of 142.5 MW, located in the city of Recife, state of Pernambuco, as it was jointly decided with the Mining and Energy Ministry (MME).

Edgar Olivera, Chesf’s project and construction superintendent, explained that Chesf will also turn and set in full operation Camaçari I thermal plant.

In case of Camaçari, no civil works are involved and the work will be conducted by French firm Alstom Power, which manufactured the five 58.5 MW engines of the plant. The two thermal plants can be sold to the private sector as part of Chesf’s assets in case the power generation company is privatized, supposedly in 2001, according to the Brazilian government’s plans.
