Argentina’s power demand hits all-time high

Energy demand in Argentina recently hit a new record when it reached 396.4 GWh during the first weekend of February, according to a report in El Cronista Comercial.

According to official figures, the previous record was 390.4 GWh, which was reached on 21 January of this year.

In response to this sharp rise in demand, the Ministry of Federal Planning said it had begun to source energy from the National Interconnectivity System as part of an effort to increase supply from other sources, such as thermal plants.

Authorities have also said they are working closely with local governments to make it possible to draw energy from elsewhere should demand keep rising.
