Argentina declares energy emergency

Argentina has declared an energy emergency due to an increase in energy demand, which has put growing pressure on the nation’s distribution system in recent weeks.

Due to high temperatures, electricity demand reached 23 GW in the country, where the maximum installed capacity is about 26 GW.

The emergency has been declared until December 2017 when the system of generation and distribution is expected to be fixed, Energy and Mines Minister Juan Jose Aranguren (pictured) said.

The official did not rule out scheduled outages.
