Westinghouse plans SPDS installations
Westinghouse Electric Corp. has signed a (US)$20 million contract to supply 10 safety parameter display systems (SPDS) for Soviet-design nuclear reactors. The contract is with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory of the Department of Energy via Parsons Power Group. The systems will be installed in RBMK reactors in Russia and the Ukraine, including one at Chernobyl Unit 3.
Last year, Westinghouse won a (US)$3 million competitive bid to design and supply one SPDS unit for the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant in Russia.
SPDSs are computer systems which graphically present information about key plant systems. Changes in the graphic displays alert operators about changing plant conditions.
