Trading office opened

UK electricity and gas company Eastern Group has opened an office in Paris to take advantage of the liberalising energy market in France. It is the second office to be opened by the company in mainland Europe in less than a month, and confirms the group`s strategy to become a leading player in the emerging electricity and natural gas trading markets.

Eastern says that it will seek licences to trade electricity and gas as soon as possible. The company has stated that France is one of the most challenging countries in which to do business, but sees it as an essential part of its strategy to build a flexible pan-European energy portfolio. In February the company opened an office in Milan, Italy.

The company believes that to create a single portfolio for the entire European market, it will require an alliance of partners with which to share the risks and the benefits of trading.
