Spanish power groups discuss new tariffs

25 September, 2002 – A group of Spain’s largest power generating companies have met twice in the last week in an attempt to agree a sharing of expenses and income under the forthcoming electricity tariff system, claims the local El Pais newspaper

The new tariff system, which the government is expected to approve soon, will see electricity prices rise over the next eight years, the paper says.

The paper quoted sources close to the companies involved, which include Endesa, Iberdrola, and Union Fenosa, as saying, the meetings were “internal working sessions, of no public importance.”
