24 May, 2002 – The Slovakian government on Wednesday approved the sale of near-majority stakes in three separate electricity distributors to foreign investors.

The cabinet approved the sale of 49 per cent of Zapadoslovenska Energetika to Germany’s E.ON Energie for €330m ($303m).

Similar approval was given to deals giving Germany’s RWE Plus 49 per cent of Vychodoslovenska Energetika for €130m ($119m), and Electricité de France 49 per cent of Stredoslovenska Energetika for €158m ($145m).

The deals were expected to be finalized within three months, officials said.
