RWE to announce cuts at generation unit

German utility RWE (FWB:à‚ RWE) is set to announce the shedding of 2500 jobs at its power plants in Germany.

Rheinische Post reported the news, citing sources close to the works council. It also said RWE was considering cutting its headcount by another 10,000 people.

The division has 14,500 employees in Germany at the moment but the paper reports that the power plant division would seek to cut 3000 to 3500 jobs over the next few years.

RWE generation spokeseperson, Stephanie Schunck, told the newspaper : “We do not comment .

According to the newspaper the decision is likely to be announced on the 14th of November when the company presents its 3rd quarter results.

The company made a similar announcement through chief executive Peter Terium in August 2012 as part of its aim to cut $1.2bn in annual costs by 2014.
