Runcorn facility passes financing

International Generating Co. has completed financing for a 750 MW power station at Rocksavage, near Runcorn, England. The greenfield project was negotiated, permitted and financed in less than a year. The facility will be the first major gas-fired combined-cycle plant in the UK developed specifically for mid-merit service. Two ABB gas turbine units with heat-recovery steam generators will be coupled to a single steam turbine. Compared with a similar capacity coal-fired station, the new plant will produce 50 percent less CO2, 75 percent less NOx, and no SO2, ash or dust.
