Ralco hydro contract awarded

Chilean utility Endesa has awarded a Peso 52m ($1.07m) contract to Alstom for the construction of a 570 MW hydropower plant in Chile. The plant will be Chile`s largest hydro plant when completed.

The dam will be at Ralco, 600 km south of Santiago. Alstom will design and build the plant and supply all the equipment. Delivery is due to begin in March 2000 and the project is scheduled for completion in 46 months. Alstom will supply two Francis turbine generator sets. The equipment will be sourced from Alstom factories in France, Canada and Brazil, and the contract will be supported by financing from these three countries.
