Pirelli signs HT superconducting agreement
Pirelli Cables and Systems, Enel and Edison have signed a four-year cooperation agreement for the development, production and testing of a high temperature superconducting cable (HTS). The project will involve the first field trial of an industrialized HTS cable system in Italy.
HTS cable technology is based on ceramic materials operating at temperatures of -196ºC.
The three companies will combine their expertise and develop a 132 kV three-phase HTS cable system capable of transporting 3000 A current continuously, more than double the load of a conventional system.
