Nuclear notes

Siemens` Power Generation Group is participating in a joint venture with eight companies of the Russian Ministry of Nuclear Energy for nuclear power plant instrumentation and control. The new company, A.O. Nuclearcontrol, will focus on engineering and marketing high-performance I&C systems, based on Siemens technology. The Nuclear Division of Siemens Power Corp. has received an operating license for a uranium conversion process facility at its nuclear fuel manufacturing plant in Lingen, Germany.

Darchem Engineering secures insulation contracts in Sweden

Darchem Engineering of Scotland has secured contracts valued at more than (US)$3.1 million for metallic foil insulation systems for nuclear power plants in Sweden. The principal order, awarded by a Framatome consortium, is for the design, manufacture, supply and installation of the insulation on three replacement steam generators at Ringhals 3. The contract is set for completion by August 1995.

Southern Electric, Amoco purchase Trinidad and Tobago utility interest

Southern Electric International Inc. and Amoco Business Development Co. have been chosen to negotiate the purchase of a 49 percent equity interest in the power generation facilities of Trinidad and Tobago. Specific terms are still under negotiation, according to Southern Electric.

The Board of Governors of the World Nuclear Fuel Market (WNFM) has elected Eckhard Strecker to chairman and Rudolph M. Grube to vice chairman for the 1994-95 term. Strecker is executive vice president, marketing, with Uranerz Exploration and Mining Ltd. and Grube is director of the Fuel Management Department of Yankee Atomic Electric Co. Kvaerner EnviroPower buys Outokumpu EcoEnergy

Kvaerner Inc. bought Outokumpu EcoEnergy Inc. from Outokumpu Engineering Enterprises Inc. and changed its name to Kvaerner EnviroPower Inc. The company, established in 1989 in Owings Mills, Md., USA, is now part of the Kvaerner EnviroPower AB group of companies. Kvaerner EnviroPower, headquartered in Gothenberg, Sweden, works in bubbling and circulating fluidized bed combustion and municipal solid waste. The firm is currently working on several bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) installations.
