The project, known as ACORDE, will run for three years under the BRITE/EURAM program. Project partners include AEA Technology, EDP from Portugal, Endesa of Spain, Tecnatom of Spain, KEMA of the Netherlands, OMAS of Greece and the IST engineering college from Portugal.

Global electricity consumption to hit 20 trillion kWh by 2015

As the world moves into the next century, demand for electricity is expected to increase more rapidly than demand for other forms of energy. Consumption of electricity worldwide is projected to approach 20 trillion kWh in 2015 from a 1995 level of 11.4 trillion kWh, according to the recently released Energy Information Administration report, International Energy Annual 1997.

EV sets world record in Germany

Deutsche Post AG, the German postal service, has announced that a Mercedes-Benz MB410E powered by the Electric Fuel zinc-air energy system, drove from Bremen to Bonn on a single battery charge. In spite of bad traffic conditions and traffic jams, the vehicle drove more than 424 km carrying a cargo of 650 kg with a total weight of 4.1 tons. It used only 94 percent of its battery capacity.

Slovenske Energeticke Strojarne a.s. Tlmace has concluded a (US)$160 million contract for reconstruction of Units 5 and 6 for Vojany power plant. It will be the turnkey delivery for two 110 MW units with fluidized bed boilers of 2 x 350 t/h capacity.
