MTU Friedrichshafen receives compact cogeneration plant order
MTU Friedrichshafen of Presseabteilung, Germany, received its first order for delivery of two gas-turbine plants for continuous generation of power and heat from Wintershall AG. Wintershall is installing modern cogenerating plants in its oil refinery facilities in Lingen to replace two old boilers used for steam production. Together with the gas turbines, existing steam turbines will be used to generate electricity and fulfill the refinery`s steam requirements.
MTU will supply two General Electric LM2500-PE/PH aeroderivative gas turbines plus switchgear, control equipment and all auxiliary systems. AEG will build the alternators and switchgear. Output will be 54.4 MW of electricity and 180 tons/hr of steam. The environmentally friendly plant will achieve 90 percent fuel efficiency. Surplus electricity will be fed into the public power grid. The plant will include NOx-reducing equipment and a continuous emissions monitoring system.
The entire plant must be installed within a space of only 20 by 20 meters, but MTU was able to apply its experience in the construction of power plants to custom-design the compact facility.
