Kvaerner EnviroPower buys Outokumpu EcoEnergy
Kvaerner Inc. bought Outokumpu EcoEnergy Inc. from Outokumpu Engineering Enterprises Inc. and changed its name to Kvaerner EnviroPower Inc. The company, established in 1989 in Owings Mills, Md., USA, is now part of the Kvaerner EnviroPower AB group of companies. Kvaerner EnviroPower, headquartered in Gothenberg, Sweden, works in bubbling and circulating fluidized bed combustion and municipal solid waste. The firm is currently working on several bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) installations.
Kvaerner is providing two woodwaste fired power plants in Canada that incorporate BFB technology. The first, for Millar Western Power in Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada, is producing 21.5 MW from Millar`s pulpmill and sawmill. The second, for Polsky Energy in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, Canada, will produce 23.8 MW from the Bowater Mersey Paper Co. mill, along with 380,000 pounds of steam per hour from the mill. It is scheduled for completion in February 1996.
Kvaerner is also providing a BFB plant to VEDCO Energy Corp. at a DuPont Co. plant in Fayetteville, N.C., USA. When completed, the facility will produce 18 MW of power and 90,000 pounds of steam per hour for DuPont`s use. The plant will use refuse from a separate material recovery facility for fuel. The project is scheduled for completion in November 1995.
