Isar 1 upgrade yielding 13 MW
Siemens Power Generation Group has been contracted to upgrade two low-pressure turbines at the Isar 1 nuclear power plant located near Landshut, Germany. The upgrade is expected to boost the boiling water reactor plant`s output from 907 to 920 MW. To enhance the turbine`s efficiency, improved seals, rotors, inner casings and highly efficient blades will be fitted. Component replacement work on one of the low-pressure turbines is complete, and work continues on the other turbine, with completion scheduled in 1998.
The low-pressure turbines` final stages are fitted with radially/tangentially curved stationary blades, with a 20-square-m exhaust cross section. The new blade profile permits a more uniform steam flow over the blade`s length.
