EON buys UK energy efficiency firm Matrix

A new division of E.ON is to buy a UK energy management and efficiency company.

E.ON said the purchase of British firm Matrix was “an important strategic move, allowing us to expand our position in the fast growing energy efficiency market”.

Matrix will be bought by E.ON Connecting Energies, a new unit which focuses on energy efficiency and distributed energy solutions in the global business-to-business sector.

Glasgow-headquartered Matrix was founded in 2003 and is the UK’s market leader in energy management and energy efficiency services for commercial buildings.

Herve Touati, chief executive of EON Connecting Energies, said the purchase of “adds a sophisticated, innovative offering to our existing services portfolio”.

“We see tremendous opportunities from the combination of Matrix’s deep data-led building energy expertise with our capital-led energy efficiency and on-site generation capabilities.”

Matrix chief executive Ian Kelly said the deal would “allow us to move from a leading national player to a leading global player in the B2B energy efficiency space”.
