EDF, sydcraft pen R&D deal

Electricite de France (EDF) and Swedish utility, Sydkraft, have announce an agreement for a three-year intensive research program on renewable energies. This project will target research and development (R&D) of biofuel pressurized gasification at an industrial-scale level, to assess its potential for future applications. The agreements will allow EDF and Sydkraft to test technology developed jointly by Sydkraft and Foster Wheeler. The Sydkraft biofuel gasification plant is sited in Varnamo, Sweden. It is the world`s first and only major demonstration plant for biofuel gasification, delivering 6 MW of electricity to the grid and 9 MW of heat to the district-heating network.
