A consortium has been created for the €30.2m ($41.1m) Millener project that will see the deployment of a smart grid solution on the French islands of Corsica, Guadeloupe and La Reunion.
Solar generation, battery storage and energy load controllers will be deployed at consumer premises throughout the islands, with distribution and balancing controlled from a central platform. Households will be provided with visualisation of their energy consumption, allowing them to monitor their electricity use in real time.
Jean-Michel Deveza, director of the smart grids programme in EDF’s Insular Power Systems Division, said: “This project is designed to better integrate distributed renewable energy, improve the stability of power systems, and identify sustainable economic models.
