CO2 quota project proposal
Denmark is to start a pilot project under which Danish energy companies would invest in environmental projects abroad in return for carbon dioxide (CO2) credits. The emission-reducing project could be implemented by the end of the year providing that agreement can be reached with partner countries.
The project would initially focus on Baltic Ring countries such as Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Estonia. Danish power producers would invest in emission-reducing projects and receive credits to compensate for domestic emissions. The projects are unlikely to receive government support.
