Ansaldo Transmissione & Distribuzione (Ansaldo T&D) has won a contract that includes supplying the overall system monitoring and control unit to ACEA Distibuzione for a for a Smart Grid project in Italy’s capital city of Rome.
The equipment will be installed in December 2011 and is expected to be online by the end of spring next year.
Ansaldo T&D said that the systems will be installed at Raffineria, an ACEA substation, and that it is expected to provide, along with other systems for the charging electric vehicles, an integrated solution for generating, storing and delivering electricity.
The company said that it sees such charging stations as important for the future of Smart Grids and the next-generation smart community concept for interactive power generation and distribution.
In March of this year, Japan’s Toshiba Corporation acquired a 67 per cent equity stake in Ansaldo T&D. Toshiba said that it plans to expand in Europe and to closely support ACEA’s Smart Grid development plans.
