18 June 2002 – Alstom announced last week at POWER-GEN Europe a new Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) system known as Flowpac. The patented wet FGD system provides high collecting efficiency even from fuels with high sulphur content.

Design requirements for modern WFGD systems often require SO2 removal efficiences as high as 98 per cent or even higher. To meet these demands, Alstom has developed a new absorper design that benefits from the use of a unique gas/liquid contacting zone and does not require the use of
recycle pumps.

The Flowpac also features a high efficiency turbulent bubble bed as the absorption zone and the
utilisation of the oxidation air for both oxidation and absorption slurry turnaround.
