Australia`s largest cogen plant open

Australian energy and building company Boral Ltd and its joint venture Canadian partner, ATCO Power, opened the country`s largest cogeneration project.

The 180 MW plant will provide about ten per cent of south Australia`s electricity needs and steam for neighbouring company Penrice Soda Products.

ATCO Power, a subsidiary of one of Canada`s largest corporations, ATCO Ltd, formed a long term alliance with with Boral Energy in 1994 to develop, own and operate power assets in Australia.

They have applied to build a 210 MW plant on a neighbouring site and have begun building a cogeneration project in Brisbane in partnership with Lend Lease Corp. and BP.
